Funeral Monday for Mary Jane Smith, founder of the Unity House of Troy

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Mary Jane Smith, founder of the Unity House of Troy and a founding member of ACL.

The Albany Times Union has a wonderful article about the impact she made to help those most in need. http://ow.ly/nxJ33089AZx

Her tenacity and dedication is best described in a quote from current Mayor of Troy and former executive director of the Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, Patrick Madden:

“When she saw something that wasn’t right, she set out to change it. Dogged determination was a strong point in her character. A good woman, a great life. Her impact was incalculable”

In her memory donations may be made to the Deuteronomy Fund at Unity House at 2431 6th Ave, Troy, NY 12180.

A celebration Mass of her life will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Joseph Provincial House in Latham. The mass will be followed by a reception.
