New York City Health + Hospitals is now the direct health care provider for all 12 jail facilities in the city, following the expiration of a contract between Damien Family Care Centers and the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center in the Bronx.
“We have now created one unified professional health service that’s uniquely focused on providing high quality health care to the individuals in our city jails,” said Dr. Patsy Yang, NYC Health + Hospitals Sr. Vice President for Correctional Health Services.
Damien Family Care Centers’ contract expired October 1st. It had 82 employees, including doctors, nurses, mental health clinicians, social workers and administrators working at the Bronx detention facility. Employees were interviewed and assessed. As a result, 78 percent of the 82 staff of the Damien Family Care Centers were offered to stay on as part of the new staff.
