Smoking Cessation

ACL is in discussions with OMH related to ways that we can help providers move to smoke-free environments.  Although there are no plans for the immediate future to mandate smoke free environments, all State Operated residential settings are going smoke free this year.  With all that has happened over the last 5 years or so in the public domain, I think it is only a matter of time before the expectation is that all residential programs be smoke free (although there is NO PLAN  to mandate it at this time) .

For those who want to explore this the following Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) links may be helpful, particularly to start a conversation with staff and consumers.

Here is the link to the Center for Practice Innovations at Columbia Psychiatry – NYS Psych Institute home page where you can set up an account:

This link tales you to a video on smoking cessation – very good to watch with consumers to start a conversation.  It is quick and engaging.   http://www.practiceinnovations.org/SmokingDependenceTreatment/tabid/201/Default.aspx
