REMINDER: Behavioral Health Managed Care Consumer Forums and Regional Planning Consortium (RPC) Kick Off Meetings

Understanding Changes to Medicaid Behavioral Health Care in New York

Medicaid is expanding to help people with mental health and substance use disorders (together these are called behavioral health care) get what they need to live, go to school, work and be part of the community. These changes have already happened in New York City and will take place across the rest of New York State on July 1, 2016.

How will these changes impact Medicaid recipients and providers?

New York State is holding local events in communities across the state and online to answer key questions and provide opportunities for people impacted by these changes to get involved.

Consumer Forums

Get the basics on the changes

  • How will these changes impact me?
  • What are the new benefits?
  • What is a Health and Recovery Plan (HARP)?
  • What should a person do if they get a letter about enrollment?

Consumer Forums still have spaces available. You can register for Rochester, Buffalo, Binghamton or Plattsburgh online: https://goo.gl/eVJFjp.

Regional Planning Consortiums

Through the efforts of all involved stakeholders, New York State expects to build a system that effectively delivers fully integrated, community based behavioral health and physical health for consumers, and establish a better quality experience for Medicaid recipients in New York State.

To this end, the Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors (CLMHD), in concert with New York State, has developed a plan to address and monitor the behavioral health transition through Regional Planning Consortiums (RPCs). It is imperative that key stakeholders, including consumers, families, providers, local governments, and Managed Care Organizations, come together to ensure that these initiatives are a positive force for the residents of New York State.

RPC kickoff events are being held immediately following the consumer forums at the same locations. The agenda will include:

  • An overview of Behavioral Health Medicaid Managed Care changes in NYS
  • Lessons learned from the NYC implementation
  • Role and goals of the RPC
  • Information on available resources and next steps.

For more information and to register for an RPC Kickoff event visit: http://clmhd.org/rpc/RPC-Regional-Kick-Off-Meetings_194_pg.htm

While RPCs have been wait-listed, we strongly encourage consumers and their families to register and attend. For non-consumers, registering will ensure people are kept informed about future opportunities to participate. Additionally, the Rochester RPC kickoff is being held via webinar for individuals who wish to participate remotely. See the information below on how to join the webinar.
