The Peer Support Specialist provides peer support, information, and advocacy to individuals diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness living or a substance use disorder, in order to assist them in regaining control over their own lives and recovery process, and integrating into the community. Works 1:1 to assist clients in articulating goals for recovery and determining the objectives needed to reach their goals, as well as assisting clients in obtaining community supports that tie in to their recovery goals. The Peer Support Specialist will meet with clients in the community as well as within an office setting. Position requires occasional transportation of clients. This is initially a grant funded position with the potential to continue as a self-funded role.
Candidates must have active peer certification (provisional or permanent). Candidates must be a past or present consumer of mental health and/or chemical addiction services who can relate to others who are currently using those services. Able to share personal experience and encourage wellness and recovery. High School or GED required. NYS motor vehicle license, safe driving record required.
Part-time, 20 hours. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
