The Peer Support Specialist provides peer support, information, and advocacy to adults with a substance use disorder in a community based supportive housing program. Works with the Service Coordinators to assist clients in regaining control over their own lives and recovery process, and integrating into the community. Assists clients in articulating goals for recovery and determining the objectives needed to reach their goals, as well as assisting clients in obtaining community supports that tie in to their recovery goals. Facilitates groups and activities, as needed. Position requires frequent travel to client apartments and transportation of clients within company vehicles.
Candidates must be a past or present consumer of mental health and/or chemical addiction services who can relate to others who are currently using those services. Able to share personal experience and encourage wellness and recovery. High School or GED required. Preferred to have some type of peer support specialist training. NYS motor vehicle license, safe driving record required.
Part-time, 20 hours: Monday – Friday day shifts.
