The Relief Peer Support Specialist provides peer support, information, and advocacy to individuals in peer run respite program, in order to assist them in regaining control over their own lives and recovery process, and integrating into the community. Assists clients in articulating goals for recovery and determining the objectives needed to reach their goals, as well as assisting clients in obtaining community supports that tie in to their recovery goals. Facilitates trainings, workshops, groups and activities, as needed.
Candidates must be a past or present consumer of mental health and/or chemical addiction services who can relate to others who are currently using those services. Able to share personal experience and encourage wellness and recovery. High School or GED required. Experience working in an adult residential rehabilitation setting serving clients with mental illness and/or chemical dependency and/or peer counselor training from a community agency. Preferred to have some type of peer counselor training from a community agency. NYS motor vehicle license, safe driving record required.
Per diem. Minimum of 8 hours required per month. Evening, weekend, and overnights shifts available.
